We would like to thank Amy Lange and Jane Newman for a very special donation. This summer Amy visited FDNC, our partner organization in Uganda, and was impressed with the powerful impact of FDNC’s work. Their generous gift was made in memory of Jane’s father, Marion Newman, a philanthropist who inspired them to follow his example of giving.

Amy and Jane’s gift is helping to make it possible for HUGS to fund the teacher training needed for the FDNC Vocational Training Center to become a government accredited school, which will greatly enhance the opportunities of its graduates. In addition, this donation will support the Special Needs Education Center and provide materials and training for the Community Health Workers Program. All of us at HUGS can’t express how grateful we are to Amy and Jane for joining us in this important work.

HUGS is celebrating its first birthday! In our first year, HUGS donors have contributed over $32,000 and touched the lives of more than 300 Ugandan youth.   Read more...

HUGS Mosquito Net Drive Provides 200 Nets - and More!

Thanks to the generosity of over 40 donors, this summer's mosquito net drive surpassed its goal, raising nearly $2,000! When HUGS Co-President Sally Shapiro traveled to Uganda in August she was able to purchase bed nets for every student at the FDNC Vocational School, as well as provide FDNC with nets for all the beds in the school's hostel. The campaign was such a success that we were also able to provide funds to the Special Needs Center for the construction of a latrine, give four graduating tailoring students their own sewing machines, and provide supplies to each of the Vocational School departments. Many, many thanks to all of you who contributed to this campaign!
